A new puppy to love!!!

Meet Lena!! Lena is so lucky to have been adopted into such a loving family with four kiddos to cuddle and care for her! Lena arrived in the late fall and came into the studio soon after to have puppy photos taken-she loved the attention and indulged us by making her up as a girly-girl. I think she rather enjoyed the pink princess chair, don't you? We can't wait to see Lena again when she is all grown!! Congratulations!!

SNOW session Day-February 20th!

February 20th is the day! SNOW SESSION DAY!! We are missing one key ingredient .... snow!! But we have faith that if we plan it, snow will come!! We have a limited number of sessions left so schedule yours soon! Since it is President's Day, the kids are off school-what better way to spend some time that day?

We have a limited number of snow sessions left(10 sessions maximum). We have been taking reservations on a first come-first serve basis. Location to be determined. Each session will be approximately 20 minutes. Session fee is $45 per family and due at the time of booking. We encourage fun hats, colorful scarves and silly mittens.

If February 20th is not a good day for you, give us a call anyway, and we may be able to make other arrangements for a different day.

Ordering sessions at the studio to view and order your images will be scheduled approximately one week following the snow session.

The date has been set-now all we have to do is make sure we keep our snow (and get more!!) Monday February 20th (President's Day) is the day we have chosen for our Snow Session Day! Since all kids will be off school, what a better way to spend some time that day?!

We have had so many requests from our clients for sessions in the snow, we thought we would finally do it this winter. We live in a cold weather climate-so many of us love all that winter has to offer. We all have memories of pond skating, skiing, snowman building, hockey, snow angels and who could forget hot cocoa? Embrace winter. Embrace the snow. Make memories. Let us help you preserve these memories.

We are offering a limited number of snow sessions (10 sessions maximum). We will take reservations on a first come-first serve basis. Location to be determined. It was during Jennifer's planning session prior to her high school senior photo session that she shared with us that she wanted to incorporate her passion for horseback riding into her senior portraits...and we couldn't have been more excited! Two of our favorite things-senior sessions and horses!! What could be better?!? Jennifer's session took place on a beautiful fall day at Kinni Valley Riding Academy (thanks, Carolyn!! http://www.kinnivalleyacademy.com/ ). Jennifer is a senior at the Agricultural and Food Sciences Academy in the Twin Cities and will graduate this spring-we can't wait to see what the future holds for her!! Best of luck, Jennifer!!

Saint Paul Fall skyline

We were thrilled when this family asked us to photograph them with the city of Saint Paul's skyline as the backgroup to their portraits! We love working in and around Saint Paul-it is really a pretty city. And the skyline is the perfect backdrop! Brother and sister, Garrett and Brooke, were great to work with-and what can be better than Garrett's partially toothless grin?!?

How cute are these three blondies? Adeline. Eli. Stella. We have known this family for just over a year and can't get enough of them! This was our first outdoor session with them and so fun to watch them discover their surroundings and explore. Running, chasing, jumping, posing, climbing, giggling. It doesn't get much better than that. We can't wait for their next session-with mom and dad this time!!

We are excited to announce our upcoming Miroslavich Photography Snow sessions...we are just missing one key ingredient. SNOW. However, we are in Minnesota and it is only a matter of time before we get a big dumping of snow, so no worries!

As soon as we do get snow, we are planning to have a day of snowy sessions! We have had so many requests from our clients for sessions in the snow, we thought we would finally do it this winter. If the date we choose is not good for you once we schedule the date, your session fee is 100% refundable. We will have a wait list to call should we have openings.

Is it January already?!?

We can hardly believe that it is January already! The fall and the holidays seemed to have flown by-in fact, we are still very behind on posting many of the fabulous fall photo sessions we had so since it is a new year, we are going to start off by getting caught up! (it certainly doesn't help that even though it is January, we are experiencing record highs for Minnesota so the fall doesn't seem that long ago!)

We photographed this super fun family on a cool October day and had fun with their three kiddos and dog, Clyde. Mom coordinated their outfits superbly - if we ever need clothing consultations, we know who to call!! We have enjoyed getting to know this family-Lucas, Olivia and Logan were a ton of fun to photograph and were such great sports on a chilly day! Their portraits are going to be stunning in their beautiful home!

Happy 2012!! We are back in the studio after what seemed like a quick but restful holday break....and we are ready to start the new year! Exciting things planned for 2012-first up, Imaging USA in New Orleans next week! (more about that later!)

We thought we would start off the year with a peek at the Animal Humane Society's annual calendar. Way back last summer, Melissa was asked to photograph 13 different animals to be featured in the calendar. We were super excited to have the honor of photographing such a big and important project for our friends at AHS. Over the course of several days, various animals graced our studio space-puppies, cats, even bunnies (how cute are these bunnies?!?!)to be photographed for specific months in the calendar. We actually should have photographed the studio during these sessions-it got rather crazy at times. And I am sure the other tenants in our building must think that we were turning into an animal kennel! That said, we loved every second of it and so enjoy our time working with the Animal Humane Society. We can't say enough good things about them and all that they do! Thank you, AHS, for the opportunity to photograph these darling animals!

Nate - Class of 2012

Really this blog entry should be entitled Nate the Great as we are a big fan of this high school senior! Nate came to us as a referral from another awesome senior at his high school. From the moment we met Nate (and his mom!) we knew it was going to be a fun session. Nate is a basketball fan and brought his collection of super cool sneakers to the session which we had to capture. In addition to that, Nate has a passion and talent for beatboxing which he also brought with him. Melissa and I were very intrigued to learn more!! It never ceases to amaze us how amazingly talented and interesting the seniors we get to meet! We so loved working with Nate-we know there are great things in your future, Nate, and we look forward to seeing what adventures await you.

We love our friends at the Animal Humane Society (AHS)! 2011 has been an exciting year of partnership for us with the AHS-we have more to share with you in the New Year but until then, we thought we would share with you the latest cover of the AHS magazine, "Animal Tracks". In addition to the cover, we were excited to be driving to the studio from a location photo session earlier this month and see one of Melissa's images from our recent AHS photo session on a billboard close to the studio. In fact, we were driving when Melissa let out a squeal that frightened the daylights out of me! The squeal was a result of turning a corner and facing this billboard! What a great surprise! And how cool to see a Miroslavich Photography image on a billboard!! We just had to share....

Not only does this family have an abundance of kids, they also have an abundance of love, energy and fun! (and a quick side note-since this session, they have added a puppy to the mix! Images of puppy Lena to come soon!!!) I think even the older kiddos in this family were surprised by how much fun it was to come to the studio and have their portraits taken. Of course, sweet 2 year old Will was the one who keeps everyone laughing and giggling! He is definitely the glue that brings everyone together!

I think this session truly got us into the holiday spirit!! When 6 month old John, his parents and their gorgeous dogs came in for this session it was still late October. However, when mom Kim pulled out one of dad's hats to put on Baby John, it was over the edge cute! This inspired Melissa to design a rockin' Christmas card for John's first Christmas! From beginning to end, this session was a blast! John was all smiles and giggles -especially with the addition of his dog siblings to the session at the end!! Nothing is better than a 6 month old laugh! We hope this darling family enjoys their first Christmas with Baby John!!

Family and Fall Leaves!

With snow now on the ground in Minnesota, this cool crisp fall morning seems like it was ages ago! Fall in Minnesota never seems long enough-maybe because we aren't looking forward to the long months of winter! So as I look at these images, I remember this fall morning fondly when we spent time with a lovely family. The previous time we photographed this family, it was the heat of summer and we were looking for shade.

We love the playfulness of this session and how much fun these brothers had exploring the park, throwing leaves at each other, mom and dad and Melissa and I, too!! Joining them for this session was their lovely nanny, Sarah, who we captured with the boys, as well. Very sweet!! We know that they will enjoy viewing these portraits displayed in their family room and the punch of these great colors will be spectacular! (Jackie never ceases to amaze us with her talents in decorating and displaying art in her home!)

Laurel-Class of 2012

This senior session was a dream! What girl doesn't want to grow up to be a ballerina at some point in her life? Well, Laurel is living that dream-what a gorgeous dancer she is! So when she said she wanted to incorporate some of her ballet into her senior session, we jumped at the chance to photograph this talent of hers. Not only is Laurel talented, she is incredibly passionate about it which we think she exudes in these images. While photographing in front of the James J Hill library in downtown Saint Paul, we (well, really Laurel) created quite the stir and crowd of onlookers! Of course, we also had to include more casual settings/outfits for her session to make it complete. The result? We created a stunningly beautiful fine art album that Laurel's family will cherish for years to come. Good luck with senior year, Laurel! We can't wait to see where you end up next year!

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

Happy Turkey Day! I wanted to let you know that we have chosen the recipient of our Thanks & Giving give-away for 2011. It is always a very hard decision, and this year proved to be the hardest yet. Each nominated family is incredibly deserving, and makes for a heart wrenching decision for us. One we know from past experience brings incredible joy.

I want to thank each person who took the time to write a nomination. I know everyone is “crazy busy” but taking a moment to give your time in writing a nomination is such a wonderful gift of time and thought. We are hoping the family we have chosen will share their story here with you too. It is inspirational. Theirs is a reminder that a positive and optimistic attitude mixed with a lot of hard work can help even the most difficult situations, and teaching your children that life lesson helps them grow in so many ways.

Through all the hardship that families experience it is impressive to me the strength and love each family gives each other by being together. Our hope is to capture that strength, love and togetherness in photography and share it with others, so that they too might be inspired. Give joy in someone else’s life. It is amazing! A special thank you to Susan, who nominated this year’s recipient, your gift is amazing!

Enjoy your day, the Macy's parade, the company, the conversation, the turkey and stuffing. Word on the street is we are having green bean casserole this year complete with creamy mushroom soup and fried onions on top thanks to some recipe in the newspaper (and that my aunt and cousin could not be more excited about it!). Thanks & Giving 2011

This is our third year of offering Thanks & Giving! It started in 2009 with a challenge from a fellow photographer - to give the joy of photography to a family in need.

This holiday season we are giving you the opportunity to give once again. If you are a client or friend, please join us by nominating someone in need. You know someone. You know someone who's experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, has someone in their family that is terminally ill or someone who is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family's spirit, love and beauty.

After receiving many deserving nominations last year, each with a poignant story, we selected a family who was experiencing a difficult hardship. We met 15 year old Maddy who was diagnosed with progressive neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Maddy and her family have not allowed Maddy's disorder to define their family, however, it has been a challenge for them. They are commited to making memories for Maddy that will be cherished. The gift of photography allowed them to have us capture beautiful moments with all of the siblings together. We were honored to give them this gift.

We know you know someone to nominate. We want to know who they are, and want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography. $2000 worth to be exact. Whether it's a beautiful canvas, or an art book or multiple wall portraits, it's in your power to give them the artwork and heirlooms they deserve this holiday season. Gabriel-Class of 2012

We get to meet the greatest high school seniors and Gabriel is certainly one of them! Gabe is one of those seniors who is very well rounded-we knew that as soon as he told us about his passions: skiing, guitar and soccer to name a few. We aren't sure how he keeps up with his studies as well as he does as he seems so busy with these activities. We know that Gabe has great things in his future and we look forward to keeping up with his adventures after he graduates next spring!

Is there something in the water lately? This past summer we have photographed several families who had 4 children. Maybe it is catching? Whatever it is, we love it!! Big families have great energy and zest for life-and keep us on our toes! We have gotten to know this family very well over the past couple of years as Carly, their oldest daughter, was one of our original ZOOM Camp campers in 2009. Over the past two years, we have watched Carly grow and develop her talent for photography-you may even recall that we posted her State Fair award winning portraits earlier this fall. We have enjoyed getting to know her siblings, too! What a fun family!!

Sweet Julia is a regular cutie here on our blog as we have been photographing her since she was just days old and her older brothers long before that! We have adored watching these three siblings grow up! Julia is now a big girl who is three years old and keeps up with those older brothers who we also photographed together at this session. Julia is full of life and laughs-and has a slight obsession with footwear (which must be why she gets along with Melissa so well?!?!) We love the special relationship we have with this darling family and look forward to many more sessions in the future!

There is something about sisters that is so sweet and precious. These two sisters are exactly that-big sister Lily is a little mother to little Violet. Seeing them interact and play during their session this past summer was too cute for words. Of course, coordinating sisters outfits is always so fun and their mom did a wonderful job with them. We are so pleased that their portraits are displayed so proudly in their home-and happy that we can share these images with their out of town family and friends through the blog! Baby Liam was three months old when we photographed him for this session. How great is this age? The expressions are priceless-new smiles, grimaces, smirks and giggles. What could be better? It is hard to believe that he will be returning soon for his 6 month session in a few weeks. Celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss prompted these long time clients to have us create beautiful family portraits of them this summer. We have been photographing Isabelle and Lily since Lily was just a baby so we were thrilled to photograph the whole family this time. And what a lovely family they are! We are so lucky to meet such fabulous families! This particular cute family came to us as the winning recipient of one of our gift certificates at a local school silent auction. (We love supporting our local schools!) It has been great getting to know them better. Bella and Derek were a blast to capture! Bella showed off some of her groovy yoga moves (can you tell that Mom is a yoga instructor?!) and Derek dazzled Melissa with his sweet personality and sense of humor. We are fortunate that we have such fantastic locations in downtown Saint Paul to use right outside the studio door. Urban alleys and lush green parks are right there! And of course, it helps when we have pretty darn cute kids to photograph!!

Late summer morning fun!

It has been a couple of years since we had the pleasure of photographing this lovely family-in fact, it was when little Sadie was just days old; it was the middle of January and freezing cold. What a difference to this family session!! It was a stunning late summer morning in a nearby meadow with warm sun and lots of sunny smiles (and one of these smiles was missing a couple of front teeth)! We also spent some time hunting for the "perfect" bonfire sticks for 5 year old Payne which we were able to find plenty. The bonfire that occurred later that evening must have been pretty darn cool-and hopefully s'mores were enjoyed as well!

These adorable siblings were so fun to photograph! Seven year old Ella, five year old Graham and two year old Lily were ready to get started as soon as they walked in the door! We captured great moments of them together-being silly, playful and just having fun!! We were also able to create stunning individual images of each of them-really showing their own unique personalities. They were darling. You know it was a great session when the 2 year old is blowing kisses as she leaves the studio at the end! Gotta love that! This family recently had an addition to their family-an eight week old goldendoodle puppy they named Teddy!! We can't wait for a session next summer that will include Teddy!! Yay!!

We are excited to launch new products at the studio this fall! To give you a little taste of what new, cool pieces you can expect to see when you come in, here is a sneak peek.Check out our new Flutter, a gift sized, beautiful, hand painted frame of your color choice (the possibilities are endless-seriously!) and it sits perfectly on a desk or shelf. It makes an ideal gift (they are flying out of the studio already!). Also this fall we are introducing our new art album that holds 20 images from your session. A great solution to having as many images from your session displayed together.

Another exciting addition this fall are the brand new, hot-off-the-press holiday card designs! Each one is better than the one before! We still custom design every stunning card but new this year we have added cool, designer shapes! You will have a hard time choosing (we certainly are!!).

We are so proud to share with you some award winning images that were created by one of our Zoom Campers, Carly. Carly entered these images into the Minnesota State Fair Photography Competition this past summer and was awarded a 1st place (mittens), 2nd place (girl with flower), 3rd place (LOVE with sparklers) as well as 3rd place (lightening) and a 4th place (boy with bubble). How cool is that?!? Carly, a freshman in high school, definitely has a passion and a talent for photography. CONGRATULATIONS, Carly!! Way to go!!

It was very special for this family to be together for this session. A busy family with a son entering his senior year of high school and a daughter jetting off back to college out east, it was the perfect time to get everyone together to capture some family moments. Many of you may recall that each Thanksgiving, we ask for your nominations of a family in need who would cherish the gift of photography in the years to come. A family who may have experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, has someone in their family that is terminally ill or someone who is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. Each year we are overwhelmed and humbled by the nominations. And 2010 was no different. We thought we would share with you this family's images taken this past summer at their home and yard. Missing: Two front teeth!!

Is there anything cuter than missing top front teeth?!? Natalie had lost hers just prior to her photo session with younger brother, Jack. This sweet stage is really just a fleeting moment in time because before you know it, those grown up teeth are there! In fact, when Natalie and her mom came to pick up their framed portraits a couple of weeks ago, those grown up teeth were already almost fully in! So glad that her mom and dad have these portraits to remind them of her precious toothless grin! Natalie and Jack were fun siblings to get to know and to photograph! We love Jack's energy and enthusiasm for life! We wish them luck as their family prepares for a big move this fall!! Hoping everything goes smoothly!!

First Day of School Fun!

Today was a special day at Miroslavich Photography-both Melissa and I both had our youngest kiddos start kindergarten which means we both have all our children in school full-time-a major milestone for us!! High School senior sessions started this summer and we are now fully immersed in the senior portrait season! Yay!! We love meeting all of these great high school students who are so excited for their senior year and all that the future holds! Megan is a remarkably smart and gifted student-who is already taking classes at the U! During her planning session, she and Melissa talked about Megan's keen interest in Japanese (Megan and her family lived in Japan for several years)so we knew we had to try to incorporate this into Megan's session. We love when seniors are passionate about something in their lives-whether it be sports, theater, music, or culture - you can tell how much it means to them when you see their eyes light up in their portraits. Not only is this family one of our long time clients, they also happen to be our "BFF family" here in Minnesota. When our family moved here almost 10 years ago from Canada, this family was the first family who befriended us and we knew right away that we would be lifelong friends. We have such fond memories of our kiddos when they were small, the addition of babies, birthdays, playdates and time together. Lisa and Steve and their three kids are a beautiful family-both inside and out. And these portraits certainly reflect that! We love that they have chosen us to capture their family as they grow up and become big kiddos....in fact, before we know it, we will be photographing Zach's high school senior portraits!!

Blue eyed Ben recently became a big one year old and his older brother, Sam, became an even bigger 4 year old. What better way to celebrate these milestones than by a joint photo session capturing these brothers playing, having fun and just being boys?! Ben had just begun walking on his own so exploring the studio (and under chairs!) was top on his list of things to do that morning. Of course, Sam is a pro having his photo created at the studio and is able to show little Ben the ropes. We were very pleased to partner with Woodbury Dental recently to photograph one of their clients, John, after he received his permanent crowns. John was in an accident (see the photo in the advertisement) that involved his two front teeth-how awful! He immediately saw Dr Edlund at Woodbury Dental who was able to "re-create" John's beautiful smile with these permanent crowns. And what a handsome smile he has!! Our image of John with his new smile was recently featured in an ad in the Woodbury magazine-we were excited and thrilled to be able to work with Woodbury Dental! We look forward to more photo sessions in the future!

Recently, one of our favorite people contacted us about a family session that would include cousins, grandparents and an aunt and uncle who would be visiting from out of town. We were delighted! What could be better than a brand new adorable baby sleeping soundly?! Maybe a doting big brother with that newborn baby! We were delighted to photograph Baby Skye when she was just 14 days old at home with her big brother, Duke. This age can be tricky as this is the time when babies start "waking up" for longer periods of time but Baby Skye slept like a champ...even with all the kisses and cuddles she was getting from Duke. It was very sweet!

I thought I would share the coolest camp we have done so far this summer! My oldest daughter just finished a week at circus camp with her friend and they had the BEST time. Check out the moves in the hammock and the German wheel. Seriously! The show was fun and gave us parents the chance to see what the kids did all week. (I wish they had a camp for grown-ups.} It looked amazing. The kids camp was put on by CIrcus Juventas, and if you want to check out their summer show "Grimm/Happily Ever After" it starts in a couple of weeks. Happy summer everyone!

This was a gorgeous session that took place just as spring became summer in Minnesota! And what a great family to kick off the summer with! A darling brother and sister, super sweet parents and an adorable pup named Hudson (after Hudson, Wisconsin, of course!) We started off in the studio and then moved outside for the rest of the session-there is something about photographing outside in Minnesota when the weather becomes great that really makes sessions feel special. It helped that this was a fun family - you can really tell that they love spending time together.

We are loving these brothers!!! It has been incredible for us to see this family grow over the past year and a half. When we first met them, Baby Jax was still in mom's belly so we created beautiful family of 3 portraits of them. How special was that? At that time, Jose was 2 years old and life as he knew it was about to change with the arrival of a baby brother! Over the past year, we have witnessed the relationship of these sweet brothers develop and grow. (Melissa is far too modest to announce this herself but that doesn't mean that I can't do some bragging!!) I am thrilled to share that the results of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) 2011 International Photographic Competition were just announced and Melissa merited with three of her images (General Collection, Showcase Book and Loan Collection -the Loan Collection is the highest possible honor to receive!) For those of you not in the know with these categories, this is a prestigous achievement-in other words: THIS IS HUGE!! I have included the three images that merited so you can see how truly remarkable and stunning the images created by Melissa truly are!

PPA's International Photographic Competition (IPC) is the gold standard for photography competitions and features the best of the best photographs from around the world in an exhibition every year. Having an image "go Loan"--chosen for inclusion in the world's most prestigious photo exhibit--is an achievement professional photographers cherish. Loan Collection images are on display throughout the year at PPA headquarters in Atlanta, and at various events worldwide, and will also be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection”

Melissa's images will be on display in the gallery at PPA’s annual convention, Imaging USA, in January 2012 in New Orleans, Louisana (and you can bet that we will be there, to!!)

Cassell - the superstar!!

Before the Memorial Day long weekend begins, we had to post another precious Dog Days of March session for you all to enjoy! Meet Cassell-a stunningly beautiful golden retriever whom we met through our portrait display at Dog Days in St Paul (http://www.dogdaysinc.com/) Cassell used to walk into Dog Days for daycare and stop to gaze at one of our dog portraits on display. So when Cassell's owner, Debra heard about our March promotion, she knew she had to bring Cassell in for a portrait session of her own! During the session, Cassell was a charmer!! As soon as the couch came out, Cassell knew exactly what she needed to do and before we knew it, she was posing like a diva on the couch!! It was priceless-and one of our favorite images from her session! We are so excited to help Debra celebrate Cassell and have created amazing portraits for her to display in her home.

You will probably recall Baby Eleanor from previous posts when she was a brand newborn (wide awake!!) and as a happy 6 month old! Well, now she is a year old and there is nothing stopping her!! Eleanor is absolutely darling and she definitely keeps up with her two older brothers, Brennan age 5 and Davis, age 3. Although being the only girl, Eleanor certainly has a sweet feminine side that we captured as well during this session. Mom needs to become our studio stylist as she always finds the BEST accessories and outfits. It has been such an honor for us to capture Brennan, Davis and Eleanor since they were all babies-and we are excited for the many more sessions with this lovely family in the years to come!

During our Dog Days of March month this year, we met many new furry friends that we would love to introduce you to over the blog! Over the next few weeks, we are going to blog on many of these new friends. First up is Miss Sallie, white miniature schnauzer who is beyond adorable! Sallie's parents, Joe and Laura, adore their girl and were so thrilled for us to capture Sallie's personality and charm. One of the fun things about Sallie was she is a super-girly dog who looked stunning in our pink chair with the floral pattern around her but she also quickly transitioned into a Harley Davidson girl when she sported her Harley shirt to match Joe! We loved it!!

Have we mentioned before how much we LOVE babies?!? Maybe just a couple of times, right? And what could be better than a newborn baby just days old? Meet Baby John who was 8 days old when we met him for the first time. His parents, Rick and Kim, were super relaxed and calm for having a baby just days before-we were impressed! Baby John was a star-he slept through almost the entire session (we are hoping his parents are that lucky with him through the night!) The result of this beautiful, peaceful session-darling newborn images that Rick and Kim will one day look back at and wonder where those newborn days went? It is a fleeting moment so it is so special to have these beautiful portraits to remember the quiet moments at 3am when they have soothed John back to sleep. We look forward to capturing John when he is sitting up by himself and all smiles-it will be here before you know it!!

Featured in Animal Tracks Magazine

We are thrilled to share with you the current edition of Animal Tracks Magazine. Animal Tracks is the magazine of the Animal Humane Society. It is published three times a year in April, August and December. It is mailed to donors and individuals enrolled in our Training School and educational programs. Last fall, Melissa was asked to photograph for the Spring/Summer 2011 publications for two articles. The first article featured the AHS's Animal Ambassadors program. Volunteers are trained with their pets to provide animal-assisted therapy and activities to people
throughout the Twin Cities metro area. They visit schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and other facilities to provide comfort, enrichment and learning opportunities to the people who need it most. We spent a morning at the Southside Family Nurturing Center photographing therapy dog, Duke, his owner Mindy and the preschoolers there. It was such an enriching experience to see how Duke would light up the faces of so many preschoolers.

The second article featured AHS staff and their pets: specifically pets they have adopted from the AHS. We met some of the very dedicated AHS staff and their lovable pets including a pit bull terrier, a Doberman Pinscher, several cats and even a guinea pig. It was a great assignment and one that we loved to do. Thanks to the AHS for such a fun few days!

Images will demonstrate knowledge gained of basic composition, camera controls, location shooting and portraiture. Each camper must bring a digital camera (SLR preferred).

Dixie the dog!

Last month we offered Dog Days of March for all of our furry friends-and what a hit it was amongst our clients!! We had many furry friends-new and old- come to the studio for sessions (and as you can see from these images, we even had a cat or two come in! But, shhhh!, don't let the dogs know!) Meet Dixie the dog! Dixie's owner, Tara, brought Dixie in for the photo session to surprise her hubby (Dixie is his hunting pal!) with portraits of Dixie for his birthday! Accompanying Dixie that day, was Belle, the new kitten who was more than happy to "jump" into a few images. What a hoot this pair was! We loved it!

Mr Andrew turns 6 months!

6 months sessions are the BEST!!!! Baby Andrew turned 6 months old and came in with his brothers and sister for an awesome photo session! Mom always has the best ideas for their sessions so we loved having Andrew in a necktie and a diaper-how cute is this?!?! It was also special for us to update all the kids' portraits to be displayed in their kitchen-and add Andrew's to the wall collage! We can't wait to see what lies in store for Andrew's one year old session this summer - and a side note: these cuties have a brand new baby boy cousin born last week whom we photographed this past week at 8 days old. Tutu cute!!

Ava and Audrey (how cute are those names for sisters?!?) came to one of our Tutus and Tiptoes sessions back in February and boy, did they have fun!! Toothless smiles

Something special I do for each of my boys is have Melissa photograph them on their own when they have lost their front, top teeth. There is something so endearing about those toothless smiles-and before you know it, those big, gawky looking grown up teeth grow in and that toothless grin is gone forever (unless you play hockey and as a hockey mom, I hope that never happens around here!) Blake, my middle son, is almost 8 and has been anxiously awaiting these two teeth to fall out (it may have to do with the tooth fairy leaving a little more for the top front teeth!) As soon as it happened, he had his own session with Melissa where he got to choose his outfits and props (football uniform, pajamas and a stuffed animal). These images have joined his older brother's toothless images in a beautiful image box we keep in the family for all to marvel at! It is a special keepsake we will cherish forever (thanks Melissa!)

Ben and Sam. You can't much cuter than these two. Just knowing this family makes us smile. Sam, the big brother at almost 4 years of age, and Ben, age 6 months, came in recently for Ben's 6 month session. Both boys were full of smiles and giggles. Of course, Sam is a pro at these photo sessions and likes "show" Ben how it is done. And you can tell already that Ben is going to want to do everything his big brother does! Blitz and his family!

This great family was made complete with the addition of their gorgeous German Shepard, Blitz when he joined their crew a couple of years ago as a pup. So of course, it was time for a new family portrait! It was lovely for us to see Sophie and Grace interact as sisters with such love and as fun spirits (we loved the dangly earrings, Grace!!) However, it was Blitz who stole the show that morning-whether it was giving slobbery kisses or leaping through the air, he kept everyone laughing! We can easily see what a wonderful addition he makes to a fabulous family!

How darling are these two sisters?!? Ivy, just over a year old, and Zoe, age 6, first came to us for our Santa Mini-sessions in the fall. They had so much fun that their mom decided to bring them back for a session all about being sisters as a Christmas present for Dad. Ivy, who was initially a wee bit shy, rocked the session which included some time in tutus! It didn't take long before Ivy was taking charge! Zoe, the doting big sister, helped "art direct" part of the session by choosing the tutus and the background to be used. She has quite the eye. We also spent some of the session focussing on Zoe on her own, allowing Melissa to create a stunning art piece all about Zoe being 6 years old. Precious. These two girls lit up the studio and we can't wait for them to come back!

Three Happy Faces!

These three cuties are very close in age: 2, 3 and 5 years old (with very brave parents!) And they are just as close as siblings-they are absolutely darling! We rocked the studio during this session - sweet Adeline, the oldest, who is just five years old and starting kindergarten in the fall; handsome Eli, who is "rockstar three" and has the best laugh; and adorable Stella, who just turned 2, and adores her brother and sister. We loved their energy, giggles and zest for life! They were a blast to have together! And we can't wait to see them again-maybe next time for a location session outdoors?!

We were honored to be approached by the Animal Humane Society back in the fall to photograph for a story for their Animal Tracks magazine about two very special Beagles, Bert & Ernie. Bert and Ernie are Beagles who came to the Animal Humane Society(AHS) in April 2010 as strays. They were found in rural Iowa and brought to the local AHS. Upon arriving, the staff noticed they were both limping. To determine the cause of their pain, they needed x-rays. Unfortunately, the AHS does not have the funds or equipment to provide x-rays on each injured animal they receive. They rely on the generousity of local vet clinics. In this case, a local clinic provided x-rays of Bert and Ernie and it was discovered that they had both been shot with a gun and both had broken legs as a result. Dr Lara Rasmussen (aka Dr Razz) donated her time and expertise to help out by performing surgery on both dogs and following up with them over the several months of rehab. Finally, after three months, they were ready for adoption. It was decided that because of all they had been through, Bert and Ernie needed to be adopted together. We are happy to report that they were adopted very quickly by a woman and her 12 year old son.

This story has touched many hearts, including ours! We wanted to share with you the images and this story which has made an impact on all who read it. Exploring with Crumpet!

The fall completely got away from us so we didn't get a chance to post on the blog some of our favorite sessions, and this is one of them! There is no time like the present! We first met Maren and her dog, Crumpet (Maren's mom is British so Crumpet is the best name ever!) when Maren was just an infant so we were delighted to photograph them again this fall. It was one of those gorgeous late October days that was warm and sunny. Maren and Crumpet had a grand time exploring the park we were at and capturing her smiles and looks of wonderment was a joy! Maren is turning 3 this spring so we are looking forward to a spring session maybe playing outside in some April puddles! Stay tuned!!!

A Brand New Baby Brother!

We thought we would start off the new year with a brand new baby: Sawyer! Sawyer was born the night of the biggest snowstorm we have seen in the Twin Cities in almost 20 years!! Luckily it was a relatively quick drive to the hospital for Sawyer's mom, dad and two big sisters-who all got to spend the night at the hospital! We were lucky to meet Baby Sawyer when he was just 5 days old and very alert!! (he wins the award for the most alert baby we have had at the studio!!) It was very sweet seeing him with his big sisters, McKenna and Ella! He is going to be a very well cared for little brother with these two sisters doting on him. Congratulations!

Happy New Year!! We are back from holidays and ready to start 2011 with a bang!! We are so excited to announce our next big event-Tutus and Tiptoes Mini-Sessions! On Thursday February 3, 2011, the studio will be filled with giggles, girls and lots of tutus! Back by popular demand...we have had so many requests to bring back this event, we have decided to offer this month in time for Valentine's Day! This will be an event you will not want to miss. During your 15 minute mini-session, we will provide the fabulous tutus (very couture) or you can bring your own. Capturing cute barefeet, playful smiles, and many twirls= it is a day to remember! This happy 4 year old and his awesome parents came to the studio for their family portraits-they have recently moved back to the Twin Cities from the East Coast and decided it was time for a family portrait! Dakota is a fun loving 4 year old that dazzled us with his gorgeous eyes and adorable smile-what a charmer! We were lucky enough to go outside even though it was November in Minnesota (literally, 2 days later we got hit with our first snow storm of the season!)We are glad they have chosen to be back in Minnesota, although with our recent blizzard, we hope they are still glad to be back!! Two boys, a baby girl and a whole lot of fun!!

These three cuties are regulars on our blog over the years and we LOVE when they come visit us at the studio! Baby sister Eleanor is now 6 months old (yes, hard to believe-she is incredibly tall but then again, she has tall genes!!) and is the princess of the family. Big brothers Brennan and Davis love entertaining her and making her laugh! It was easy to see that Eleanor has daddy wrapped around her finger-precious! I am sure the holidays will be full of fun at their house-i can only imagine Christmas morning!

An afternoon at the river!

The last time we photographed this delightful brother and sister, it was summer on the river...days of playing a the edge of the water, sundresses, climbing trees and sunkissed skin. This time we enjoyed a gorgeous fall afternoon exploring the riverside...playing in the leaves, raking, cosy clothes and rosy cheeks from the crisp, fall air. However, what was still the same was the adoring relationship between these two siblings. They may be a little taller and wiser, but you can still tell how much they enjoy each other's company.

It seemed hard to believe it was time for Jax's 6 month session back in late September, but it was! Jax's family kindly invited us into their home for this photo session and we were pleased to go on location to their beautiful new house! Jax and big brother, Jose (who is now a big 3 year old!), loved hanging out together (and a little jumping on the bed!)and we could see how precious their relationship as brothers has become! Of course, we fell in love with Jax's nursery and how talented Mom is with decorating. It was especially nice for us to be in their home to create such special memories for them!

Before we know it, Jax will be turning one! Stay tuned for those images in a few months.....

Happy Thanksgiving! I wanted to let you know that we have chosen the recipient of our Thanks & Giving give-away for 2010. It is such a hard decision, and each nominated family is so incredibly deserving. A very hard and heart wrenching decision for us, but one we know from past experience brings incredible joy.

I want to thank each person who took the time to write in a nomination. I know everyone is “crazy busy” but taking a moment to give your time in writing a nomination is such a wonderful gift of time and thought. We are hoping the family we have chosen will share their story here with you too. It is inspirational. Theirs is reminder to make the most of what you have and make memories that you can take with you for a lifetime.

Through all the hardship that families experience it is impressive to me the strength and love each family gives each other by being together. Our hope is to capture that strength, love and togetherness in photography and share it with others, so that they too might be inspired. Give joy where you can in someone else’s life. It is amazing! Melissa and I have been reading each heartfelt nomination and it is going to be a tough decision. We are so excited with this very special offer for a limited time! For anyone who has ordered portraits, we are offering new, beautiful, cool holiday ornaments. Recently, we had the opportunity to create exclusive Miroslavich Photography designed holiday ornaments. They come in three holiday-inspired colors: Winterberry Red, Birch White and Garland Green. Each are hand-painted and slightly distressed and PERFECT for any Christmas tree at the ideal size of 4"x4". Since introducing them earlier this fall, they have been flying out of the studio.

It is time to give!
We started Thanks & Giving last year with a challenge from a fellow photographer - to give the joy of photography to a family in need.

This holiday season are giving you the opportunity to give once again. If you are a client or friend, please join us by nominating someone in need. You know someone. You know someone who's experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, has someone in their family that is terminally ill or someone who is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family's spirit, love and beauty.

After receiving many deserving nominations last year, each with a poignant story, we selected a family who was experiencing a difficult hardship. At the time of the nomination, the family had been hit with devastating news that Matt had gastric cancer. In his early thirties, with a beautiful wife and two darling daughters, Matt was fighting hard to live life to its fullest. We photographed their family in late December at the studio and created beautiful portraits of them to cherish forever. It was truly an experience that we will never forget and changed us in ways we could not have imagined. Unfortunately, Matt passed away this August after a hard fought battle with cancer. We know that his memory will live on forever and we are pleased to know that his images and their portraits will forever be treasured in their home.

Sharing Talents

How do photographers create images of their own families? Seriously? This is a question I have been pondering for quite awhile, and then I met Tera of Tera Windfeldt Photography, and the answer was clear! Earlier this fall Tera and I met with our families in tow and photographed each others families in a beautiful park. I am thrilled to have created portraits of her wonderful boys. And in return I have beautiful family portraits of my own family and me with my girls. The most important thing I learned from the experience (besides that I cry when I see my family captured so beautifully too) is that every parent should have portraits created of themselves with each of their children. It is something we do, but oh it is so special to have. I loved how Tera's oldest son is now almost as tall as she is, and the middle son is silly when he is around her, and the youngest - what a cutie pie! She will always have her with each of her boys and I will now have me with my girls. I know I will treasure it. Thank you Tera!

Senior portrait season is starting to wind down for this year which always makes us a little sad! We get to meet the BEST seniors every year-not sure how we luck out?! We loved getting to know Brenna during her senior photo session with us earlier this fall: the clothes, the make-up, the cool accessories, the natural modeling talent, the giggling! What more could we ask for? I honestly think Melissa and I had as much fun as Brenna! Brenna was a blast to photograph and she was up for anything! Which meant we could explore some really cool spots in downtown Saint Paul. It will be exciting to see where Brenna's future takes her-Good luck, Brenna!!!

Buddies...

Edison and Lucas are brothers but more than anything else, you can tell they are good buddies! Each have their own unique personalities which shone through at our session. We asked them each to bring something to the session that reflected their personality and interests. Lucas brought a baseball bat to the session-clearly a baseball fan! And Edison brought a model airplane that he had built himself-a future awaits him in engineering, we think! We had a fun time with the session-and they even were a part of the naming of the "schmermer"-next time you are at the studio, ask Melissa to show it to you!!

Fall in the city!

We love fall in Minnesota! And what a gorgeous fall we have had! This super cute family was one of our first fall photo sessions back in September-look at how well coordinated and stylish they look (good job, Kelli!!) We photographed Lily when she was 18 months old and now she is 4 1/2 and so grown up! Little brother Jack is 2 years old and ready to be on the go-after all, he has to keep up with his big sis! What a darling family-thanks for starting off our fall with such a great session!

This lovely session happened way back in the summer but we have been a little behind on some of our blog posts (one of the downfalls of being so busy!)However, we haven't forgotten darling Sophia who is 17 months old at the time of this session. What a doll! Sophia is the youngest of 4 children so you know she gets lots of love at home! Sophia's family has been coming to us for family portraits for many years. We were very sad when they moved away from Minnesota to Pennsylvania two years ago. So you can imagine how delighted we were when Sophia's mom called to book a session during their trip back to Minnesota this summer?! And you can imagine how overjoyed we were when we learned they are planning to move back here very soon! It has been an honor and pleasure for us to capture this sweet family over the years. And we look forward to many more photo sessions in the years to come! (stay tuned for images of all the siblings in another blog post soon!)

Baby Emerson (aka Emmy)came to us at the perfect age-6 months which may be one of our favorite ages/stages to photograph! And she couldn't have been more of a doll! Her expressions are priceless and we captured them all! It was hard for her parents to choose! Although they did decide on a collage for one of their walls which is going to look stunning! We can't wait to watch Emmy grow and see her sunny personality develop-what a superstar!
